Introduction to EGSCRS
The Egyptian Society of Cataract and Corneal Diseases, known as EGSCRS, was founded in 1990 by the late Prof Salah Moustafa and Prof Mohamed Ayoub. It marked a significant milestone in the advancement of ophthalmology within Egypt and the surrounding regions. As the first subspecialized ophthalmic society in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa, EGSCRS has played an essential role in enhancing the understanding of cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery.
The Transition to EGSCRS
In 2009, the society was renamed EGSCRS to align with global trends among similar organizations, a suggestion made by Dr. Ahmad Khalil. This transition highlighted the society’s commitment to staying relevant in the ever-evolving field of ophthalmology. The name change not only modernized the brand but also reflected its mission to spread knowledge and foster collaboration among professionals in the field.
Educational Initiatives and Collaboration
EGSCRS has established a reputation for bringing together esteemed ophthalmic surgeons from various Egyptian universities. Through its partnership with international experts and mega-societies like ASCRS, the society ensures that its members have access to up-to-date research and techniques. EGSCRS hosts an annual international meeting that attracts attendees from around the world, alongside various smaller teaching and training activities throughout Egypt. Through these initiatives, EGSCRS continues to contribute significantly to the improvement and advancement of ophthalmic practices.
